Jos city, 03:20PM. The Fire side chat with the newly appointed Director General of the Plateau State Information Technology Development Agency (David Daser) is about to begin. The chat takes place in nHub’s outsourcing office; the first northern based innovation hub in Nigeria.
The DG Started the chat with a little history about the agency and the role it plays to the people on the Plateau. And how he intends to works stakeholders and how the Plateau State Government plans to invest in the ICT sector going forward.
Commissioner of Science and Tech, Plateau State who was present at the event, mentioned how the DG’s daily lifestyle will change from the tech clothes he likes wearing to tedious budget planning. He also said Plateau state is lucky to have someone like him. Stating that he is here to assist him if he has any roadblocks.
Talking about the matters or incidents that lead to the creation of the Plateau State Information Technology Development Agency, he cited an example, imagine if someone had a tech issues where do they go at state levels to resolve the issues?
That the agency will also look at ways to make sure that foreign contractors with contracts in Plateau State get to give back to the ecosystem. Stressing on the point that shouting on social media do not help; instead we should look at ways to influence important policies that will enable growth in the sector.
One key point mentioned includes how one of the major task of the agency is how to track and make sure that there is efficient in the government with tech tools. The agency will create human capacity opportunities for young people and social impact base products (such as hackathon).
The DG also talked about plans to make sure that there are innovation hubs across all the 17-local government in Plateau State.
