Meet The Deaf Technology Foundation Changing Lives In Jos City

Browse By

Deaf Technology Foundation is a non-profit organization that builds and ecosystem of young, deaf software Engineers and STEM experts who will give back to the deaf community.

It was founded in 2017 by Pantong Dashwet (Deaf) and Wuni Bitrus in order to:

Increase the representation of the Deaf community in ICT/STEM fields.
To empower young Deaf persons to help each other grow in the industry.
To provide an enabling environment where they can learn, collaborate, be mentored and innovate together.
To equip them to be employable and employers of labor.

To do this we focused on deaf kids of ages 5-19 training them in programming and Robotics. We don’t just teach them programming but through programming and robotics we:
1) Trigger and stimulate their creativity.
2) Equip them with problem-solving skills.
3) Critical thinking and teamwork

So far without funding, we have reached out to 5 deaf schools and introduced 100 deaf kids to programming and robotics and are consistently training 30 for a year now.
Our proven result-based approach has shown that students who undergo this training improve academically more than those who do not. Such students, no longer see Math and Science as a problem but as a tool to solve problems hence the develope interest in STEM fields.
