The Supreme Court has affirmed the election of Governor Gboyega Oyetola, who had contested under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Punch reports that the court dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate in the September 2018 election in Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, challenging the outcome of the polls.

The court had a split decision of five to two among a panel of seven Justices. The court nullified the judgment of the Osun State Election Petition Tribunal which had declared Adeleke as winner of the election.

Oyetola won at the Appeal Court and Adeleke and the PDP went on to challenge the judgment at the Supreme Court.
