Investiture: Olugbenga Oyewole FCTI becomes 2nd Chairman of CITN VI-Lekki & District Society

The VI-Lekki & District Society of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) held an investiture ceremony for its 2nd Chairman since inception, Mr Olugbenga Oyewole FCTI on 12th June 2021.

The ceremony started with courtesy visits to the palace of Oba Elegushi and some corporate organizations around the VI-Lekki axis.

The first courtesy call was at the BUA Group in Victoria Island, where the CITN exco members and the outgoing executives of the VI-Lekki & District Society was led by Barrister Sammel Agbeluyi, FCTI Vice President of CITN. They were received by the BUA management, led by the Group’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Chimaobi Maduekwe, Tax Manager, Mr. Adedeji Adebayo,FCTI and Mr. Abdulrasheed Olayiwola the General Manager of Lafiagi Sugar Company, a subsidiary in the group.

The next stop was at the Sovereign Trust Insurance (STI) Plc. also in VI, where the team was greeted by the Technical Executive Director of the company, Mr Jude Modilim and Mr Sanni Oladimeji, FCTI the Risk and Compliance Manager.

At the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, Kusenla lll, Oba Elegushi of the Ikate Kingdom, the monarch was represented by Chief Ayuba Elegushi, the Eletu of Elegushi and Chief Olalekan Bakare Aro of Elegushi. Barr. Agbeluyi thanked the monarch and the council of chiefs for their commitment in making the community suitable for organisations like CITN to thrive.

The new Chairman for CITN VI-Lekki & District Society, Mr Olugbenga Oyewole,FCTI took the oath of office and was decorated with the Chairman’s medal by the CITN Vice President Barr. Samuel Agbeluyi,FCTI, the outgoing Chairman of the district-Ms. Emmanuella Soyingbe and other CITN executive members present.

The special guest of honour, Professor Olusegun Ajibola, past President/Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIBN) spoke on the need for equity in tax administration in Nigeria.

According to him, “the social benefits of taxation must be visible for all to see; as tax payers are motivated when they are assured of social benefits that would come from their taxes”. He averts that proper taxation would help fix the budget deficit recorded in Nigeria’s budget annually.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Oyewole promised to work assiduously to take the district higher from the lofty heights achieved by his predecessor. He, therefore, solicited for the support of all members and other stakeholders in the new dispensation.

Mr Oyewole, a fellow of ICAN and CITN, is also a certified forensic accountant and managing partner of Olugbenga Oyewole & Co, firm of chartered accountants, tax practitioners and forensic accountants.

Other members of the newly constituted executive are Mrs Abidemi Olawumi (Vice-Chairman), Mr Gbemiga Ladejebi (Deputy Vice Chairman), Mr Olukunle Fagbayi (Financial Secretary) and Mr Anthony Adenubi (Assistant
General Secretary).
