On Tuesday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagged off its campaigns in Lagos.

According to The Guardian, all was well until about 1.30pm when Governor Akinwunmi Ambode was delivering his speech.

The paper reports that suspected rival groups of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) started shooting at each other.

The Guardian’s report added that three journalists were shot at the rally and that at least two other persons were killed.

“Among those that were hit by the gun was the group political editor of Nation newspaper, Emmanuel Oladesu; NewTelegraph correspondent, Temitope Ogunbanke; Ibile Television cameraman, Abiodun Yusuf, among others,” the report added.

The report said that popular NURTW leader Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo was beaten with sticks by thugs.

It said that hoodlums took advantage of the situation and robbed people in attendance.

In the videos shared, Ambode continued his speech despite the situation. The Guardian reports that Ambode then handed over the microphone to the party’s governorship aspirant in the state Babajide Sanwo-Olu to give the vote of thanks.

As we take our campaign across Lagos with more rallies, I want to encourage party members to be alert to the nefarious seeds of violence planted by enemies of our #ForAGreaterLagos mission with their inciting words. Let us shun violence & allow the security officials protect us.
