Nigeria Air, the National Carrier that was announced in July has been suspended indefinitely, it has emerged.
The Minister of State Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja while briefing newsmen. He also announced it on Twitter saying:
During the media briefing, he said the Federal Government took the decision to suspend the procurement of Nigeria Air at the federal executive council meeting.
Sirika however didn’t give any specific reasons for the suspension.
Nigeria Air was announced in July at the Farnborough International Airshow in London, by same Minister. The logo which later become a controversial topic on social media because of the alleged cost was unveiled at same event.
During the unveiling, the minister said,
“This will be a National Carrier that is Private sector-led and driven. It is a business, not a social service. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this.”
“The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new National Carrier. Government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it.” he concluded.
