Pope Rihanna is exactly what the religion needs. At best, the only known female pope in history was real but murdered for being a woman and then erased.

Pope Joan never existed, and almost 1200 years later only men can be elected pope. In the spirit of this year’s Met Gala theme, Rihanna has reimagined Catholicism as a religion that celebrates women, or at least i want to think so.

Thanks to Maison Margiela, Rihanna embodied the Costume Institute’s exhibit theme, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” with aplomb while also reminding us of this sordid history.
