– A gay wedding held in Zaria has been reportedly halted –

About fifty three people were arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Chediya, Zaria on Wednesday, April 19 after they were arrested at a gay wedding held in the state. The wedding was said to have taken place on Saturday, April 15 with the couple being Faruk and Sanusi. The arrested persons who graced the occasion are being charged with unlawful assembly, conspiracy which contravened the laws on ground.

“On April 15, 2017 at about 2100 hours a team of policemen led by DSP Muhammad Lawal-Mashi arrested and brought to police station 53 persons. “The arrested persons included; Jibril Abdullahi, Sagir Abubakar, Anas Mohammed, Mustapha Ababukar, Musa Ibrahim and Suleiman Usman among others, all of various addresses.” “Information reached the police that these group of persons conspired to celebrate a gay marriage at Zaria Motel between one Faruk and Sanusi both at large,” the prosecutor said. NAIJ.com gathered that the accused group of persons pleaded guilty while their counsel asked the court to grant them bail in line with some sections of the constitution. Yunusa Umar, the counsel, said the accused persons were detained for over twenty four hours in police custody and that itself was against the law.

Auwal Musa-Aliyu, the chief magistrate granted them bail in the sum of N462,000 each. They were also asked to provide a surety each who must be a blood relation to the accused. The surety must bring along two passport size photographs, valid ID card, bank account number, letter of credence from a traditional ruler, valid phone numbers and a 2015 utility bill.
