Football Competition: The Golazo 5-aside League Comes To Jos

Browse By

Golazo 5-aside league is a football tournament involving youths from all over the city of Jos and environs.

Football is not just a popular sport amongst youths but also a globally accepted tool that provides an opportunity to foster unity and raise awareness among communities especially the youth. The GOLAZO! team intends to use the tournament as a means to disseminate information about the negative impacts of social vices such as substance abuse, violent protests, political thuggery and other issues like HIV/AIDS to communities through sports. During the tournament, banners and other media will be used to raise awareness about some of these issues.

This project also seeks to provide a platform for social interaction, entertainment, promotion of young talents and improving uptake of social investors in Jos, and Plateau state at large.

The word ‘golazo’ is Spanish for ‘an amazing goal’, and the GOLAZO! concept in its entirety represents the organizer’s goals, not just for the youth, but the entire State and Nation.

This edition will be a 2-day 5-aside competition guided by already developed format and set of rules. However, the GOLAZO! Project will be a continuous one where more tournaments and other events will be organized periodically.

Format

There will be eight men’s teams at the tournament.

Each of the eight teams will have eight players in total; a keeper, four players and three members of the bench that can be substituted into the game with the referee’s consent, typical of the basketball substitution system.

A team is allowed a coaching unit.

The winning team will be awarded N100,000. However, the prize money is subject to possible increment. Consolation prizes apply.
