The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has denied conferring the ‘Senator of the Year’ award on Senator Dino Melaye.
The National President of the union Mr Abdulwaheed Odusile said on Monday in a statement that the organisation did not approved any award for Senator Melaye and 14 others as being reported by some unauthorized members of the union.
“The award purportedly by the Senate Press Corps of the Union is illegal as the body is not recognized by the NUJ constitution to give any award to anybody.
“The Union dissociates itself from the so-called conferment as it did not comply with the provision of the Constitution of NUJ on such issues, hence the nullification of the award.
“The National President has directed that we inform the public that anybody who deals with this group on behalf of any organ of the Union does so at his or her own risk please,” the statement signed by the Senior Assistant to the National Secretary of NUJ Gbemiga Bamidele on behalf of Odusile said.
